The Print Art workshop

About Us

Print Art Cape Town is a custom imaging and fine art print studio.

Our clients are photographers, artists, galleries and curators - both established and emerging. We believe that high-quality work comes from creative collaboration. We love working with people who share our passion for photography and the printed image. And we are committed to sharing our experience – and gaining fresh perspectives – by nurturing new talent.

We use the worlds best large-format inkjet printers fitted with a selection of different ink-sets to offer a range of print options. All papers and equipment are carefully (obsessively?) calibrated using Xrite spectrophotometers. This allows us to create custom print profiles for our printers and to ensure colour accuracy and repeatability across our full range of services.

We are uniquely placed in terms of the range of

options that we offer clients.

Fine Art Printing

Fine Art Printing is our flagship service. We use the latest generation Epson Ultrachrome archival pigment inks in our top-of-the-range wide format inkjet printer. When combined with the worlds finest papers, careful file processing and custom profiles, the results can be quite extraordinary.

Piezography

Piezography is a dedicated black-and-white print system that offers unparalleled tonal range and resolution for monochrome digital prints.

Premium Ink Prints

Premium Ink Prints are perfect for emerging artists, photographers, students and stylists looking for high-quality, long-lasting pigment ink prints at a more affordable price point.

Scanning

The goal of 'flat' artwork scanning is to create a faithful copy of the original. Using a properly calibrated scanner is an important starting point. Then the captured data needs to be carefully managed in a colour-managed workflow.

Print Art is owned and managed by Neil Williamson. Neil's love of printing was born 30 years ago in the traditional photographic darkroom. After a varied career in film and media, the return to printing full-time in 2011 was a natural progression.

Predictable, accurate colour is a central pillar of our work. We carefully calibrate and profile all our printers and monitors. And we invest a lot of time and effort into creating custom print profiles for all of our papers. To learn more about things like 'paper profiles' and 'colour-management' have a look at our FAQ.

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do." - Steve Jobs
